(pictured below)
Pink Lust is truly a hot pink and it really draws focus. Cherry Skies does fit the descriptor on the NYX website (a deep wine red) but is misleading if you are basing your selection on the shade name (Cherry Skies) as it is NOT a cherry red.
How I wear NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick
I exfoliate my lips before applying any type of lipstick to create a smooth, even surface for the product to stick to. I usually use a sugar scrub or, if I'm in a hurry, I exfoliate by rubbing my toothbrush over my lips while I'm brushing my teeth in the morning.
Then I "paint" the liquid lipstick onto my lower lip, press my lips together gently and then fill in the rest of my top lip.
Allow the lipstick to "set"/dry before eating or drinking.
PROS
*Gorgeous, fun and trendy shade selection
Though there are only 12 shades, they are really fun and there is a nice variety for different comfort levels.
*Matte finish as expected
The Liquid Suede applies glossy but sets into a matte finish as expected.
*Great pigmentation
The pigmentation of these liquid lipsticks is fantastic. They apply evenly and smoothly. No issues here!
*Fragrance
There isn't any type of overpowering fragrance to speak of. No fruity, candy, or floral smell to mask harsh chemical smells or anything. So no worries in that department.
*Beautiful packaging
I am almost always a fan of NYX packaging because it looks more high-end than most drugstore products and really appeals to my eyes. A minor detail but worth a mention.
*Soft applicator
The applicator in the Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick allows for a smooth application and is not scratchy or rough like some.
CONS
*Flaking
This is the biggie for me. If I wear the Liquid Suede as mentioned above, it will start to crack and flake off quickly. This is especially problematic after eating or drinking. Unlike traditional lipstick or lip gloss that will just rub off over time, liquid lipstick tends to crack and flake which leaves little flecks on my mouth, teeth, everywhere! This guy is no exception for me. I had the same issue with both shades I own.
*Drying time
This basically never dries on my lips, no matter which method I choose when applying. Though the finish appears matte, it remains tacky. This allows for it to transfer and stick to things (straws, glasses, etc.), as well as leave my lips patchy and start the flaking process. If I blot down Cherry Skies, I can get a lighter, thinner wear and it will last for a few hours without flaking but still remains slightly tacky. The Pink Lust shade was basically hopeless for me. No amount of blotting could even save it.
*Feel on lips
Aside from the other things I mentioned, it feels heavy on the lips. I love when a liquid lipstick feels weightless and light on my lips. NYX Liquid Suede is not like that. I definitely can tell it 's there.
*Drying to lips
Like most liquid lipsticks, the Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick can cause your lips to become extra dry. This is less of a con for the specific product as it should be a general expectation for liquid lipstick. If you choose this product, be sure you are exfoliating and moisturizing super well.
Final thoughts
I end up spending most of my time nervous and on edge hoping I don't end up with this lipstick all over everything and a cracked, dry looking mouth. I want a liquid lipstick that I can wear for hours and not be worried about it. Though I know some people who swear to love this formula, it's just not working for me.
Have you tried NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick? I'd love to hear your thoughts on it!
