At Home Solution to Stained Nails

Have you ever skipped the base coat because you were in a hurry and just wanted instant gratification of pretty polished nails for the night? Yeah, it happens. If you don't know by now, base coat serves two really important functions. The first is creating a foundation for polish to adhere to your nails longer and the second is creating a barrier between your polish and your nail to protect against staining.

So what happens if you skip the base coat?

You end up with this!

Once nails are stained, you may think the only "fix" is covering them up with a fresh coat of polish. However, there are easy, at-home solutions. You all know I love simple, natural and convenient. Well, I'm willing to bet you have this fix in your home right now!

What I used in the following picture is plain, ordinary toothpaste. Yep, you heard right, toothpaste!

I just applied the toothpaste using an old toothbrush and scrubbed my nails as if they were my teeth. It worked beautifully.

Here are the before and afters  so you can see them side by side.

  3. Wow, that is such a great idea. Though it does make you wonder if tooth paste is strong enough to get nail polish enamel off your fingers, maybe it is a little too harsh on your teeth! I use baking soda and peroxide for brushing works great! And no fluoride!
