I'd love to invite some amazing influensters to join me in this exclusive club!

All About Influenster

Influenster is a really cool site I am a member of. I get free stuff from them just for being an active member. So, what IS Influenster?

Right off their website:

What Is Influenster

Influenster is a free -to-join community of invited trendsetters who live to give opinions of products and experiences. Influenster creates links between brands and members to reward participation and influence future products.
So...what exactly is Influenster? So glad you asked. Here’s a handy definition that would make Merriam-Webster proud:

Influenster [in-floo-uhn-ster]

noun
An exclusive online community where tastemakers and trendsetters (such as yourself) come to share the latest and greatest news, places, products, and reviews with each other. 2. The hotspot you just bookmarked on your web browser that turns your social influence into sweet rewards.
Basically, Influenster is a place for culture junkies to come together and share their unique opinions of products and experiences. Active members of Influenster get exclusive access to deals, promotions, and swag from brands that thrive off the input (the good, the bad, and the ugly -- they just want to know what's up).

In my Words:

The really cool thing about Influenster, like BzzAgent, is that they want to know how you TRULY feel about products and you aren't penalized for NOT liking something. If you are an active member, you get rewarded with product testing opportunities and acceptance into VoxBox programs.

WHAT'S a "VOXBOX"?

A VoxBox is a cool box that is mailed to you with FREE products inside. There have been some really neat ones. I recently got the Spring Fever VoxBox.

This is the Spring Fever Voxbox 2013

Some other cool recent VoxBoxes:

This is the Sweetheart VoxBox 2013

Holiday VoxBox 2012

So, want to join influenster? I'd love to send you an invitation so you can join me on this exclusive site! Check out my post Announcing the Influenster Invitational to get an invite.

Hide those tired eyes

Becoming a mom always comes with sleep deprivation. Late night feedings, diaper changes, older kids who don't want to stay in bed. Then there is the laundry list of things you only get the chance to do once your kids are in bed. This often leads to what I like to call the "zombie mommy" effect. You know what I'm talking about! Those dark, puffy under eyes. We all have those nice people in our lives who don't mind pointing it out either. When you meet up with a friend (usually one without children) and she comments "dang, you look exhausted!" It takes everything you have not to spout off the not-so-nice things you are thinking. Then you realize, she's right! However, there are a few tricks to cover-up or help reduce the zombie mommy effect.

Choose a concealer a shade lighter than your natural skin tone.

If your dark circles are blue or purple in tone, look for a concealer more on the yellow side. The yellow will counteract the blue or purple in your undereye shadows.

If your dark circles are more on the brown side, choose a concealer with a more peach or pink base.

(don't mind the model's beautiful, flawless skin)

Apply it with a small, pointed brush to avoid caking. Start from the inner corner of your eye (that's where the circles are the darkest and will need the most coverage). Dab a few dots of concealer and lightly sweep outward and down with your brush. Only apply to the area that is actually darker than the rest of your face. This area is generally a semi-circle right under your lower lash line and the inner corner of your eye above the tear ducts.

Use an eye shadow brush or powder puff and pat translucent powder over the concealer to set it. This will reduce shine and keep the concealer from settling into creases and any wrinkles you may have.

Now that we have hidden them, here are a few easy ways to reduce them:

-Make sure to drink plenty of water (that's at least 8-10 glasses a day) but a great rule of thumb is to drink half your body weight in ounces every day.

-Freeze a spoon for 10 to 15 minutes and apply it to your eyes until it isn't cold anymore. This will help minimize puffiness.

-Apply cold cucumber slices for 15 minutes. They will reduce puffiness and tone and tighten the skin under you eyes.

-Twice a day, use an eye cream that contains vitamin c and caffeine. Both of these ingredients reduce puffiness.

At Home Solution to Stained Nails

Have you ever skipped the base coat because you were in a hurry and just wanted instant gratification of pretty polished nails for the night? Yeah, it happens. If you don't know by now, base coat serves two really important functions. The first is creating a foundation for polish to adhere to your nails longer and the second is creating a barrier between your polish and your nail to protect against staining.

So what happens if you skip the base coat?

You end up with this!

Once nails are stained, you may think the only "fix" is covering them up with a fresh coat of polish. However, there are easy, at-home solutions. You all know I love simple, natural and convenient. Well, I'm willing to bet you have this fix in your home right now!

What I used in the following picture is plain, ordinary toothpaste. Yep, you heard right, toothpaste!

I just applied the toothpaste using an old toothbrush and scrubbed my nails as if they were my teeth. It worked beautifully.

Here are the before and afters  so you can see them side by side.

2013 VMA Awards

Hey beauties! Last night was the VMA's. Did you see anything on the red carpet or on stage that you would love to duplicate? Clearly, I'm guessing no one will say Miley Cyrus! Seriously, what was this girl thinking? All the dancing teddy bears, crotch grabbing, and lack of clothing. Looks like being voted "Sexiest woman in the world" by Maxim magazine this year wasn't enough attention for her.

How do you go from this

to this?

Anyway, moving on! On the other hand, Taylor Swift looked gorgeous! I love her classic beauty look. The red lips, curls and perfectly fitting gown. I would duplicate her look any day!

Love the crackle nail trend!

I know that maybe I'm a little behind on this trend but I have fallen in love with the crackle nail trend. The best thing about it is how easy it is. I purchased my crackle polish from Sephora online. The crackle top coat is called "Blasted" and is by Sephora by OPI. Amazingly, it is only $3.00 a bottle! I bought mine in black, white, silver and gold. They also have purple and a darker gold color.

This is what I used to create the following look. Lasting Finish Pro by Rimmel in #420 Midnight Blue, Sephora by OPI Blasted in gold, and Finger paints top coat.

Fave Glam Bag Products

Here are some of my FAVORITE products I have received my my Ipsy Glam Bags! Want to know more about Ipsy and how YOU can become a Glam Bag subscriber? See my post *HERE*

St. Tropez: One Night Only Instant Glow Body Lotion

If this product is any indication of how great the rest of their product line is, I am impressed. This is a self-tanning lotion that is intended to give you a nice, natural looking tan for one day. I have used tons of tanning products and always look orange. To my suprise, St. Tropez One Night Only actually left me looking brown! The only thing that I didn't like about it is that it only lasted until I washed it off in the shower. I guess that could be a good thing for someone who only wants a tan for one day (not quite sure why you would).

Ipsy

Ipsy is the beauty subscription service that offers subscribers 4-5 beauty products in each monthly bag. What's great about Ipsy is that it only costs $10 a month! That's a lot cheaper than most subscription services that charge $20 a month and up. That makes it  great for women or teenagers on a budget. How it works is that you go to Ipsy's site here and sign up. There is a questionnaire you will fill out with all things beauty related including skin tone, hair, and eye color. This is the information Ipsy uses to customize glam bags for you. After you answer the questionnaire you can subscribe for bags. Each month Ipsy sends out a themed glam bag with 4-5 beauty related product samples (some are full-size). I love all the cute little makeup bags I have received since joining! You do not pick the products you receive, they are chosen for you. This makes for a really fun surprise and, I don't know about you but, I love getting goodies in the mail! I have gotten some really great things and new favorites for my makeup bag since joining.

Let me know in the comments below if you subscribe to Ipsy and how you like it!

Here is my August Glam bag!

Victoria HAS Secrets and So Do I!

I know there are a lot of people who don't shop at Victoria's Secret because it's too expensive. I used to be one of them until I had children. I watched my, already not very large, breasts deflate and become smaller after nursing my boys. I know there is the opinion that I should feel good about myself and these types of things are normal after becoming a mother. However, I wasn't happy with it. I didn't feel good about it. I had considered (briefly) getting breast implants. That was until a friend introduced me to the Miraculous bra (now called Bombshell) and I discovered that Victoria does, in fact, have secrets. I was in love with this AMAZING, yes, MIRACULOUS bra! I did feel like a Bombshell wearing it. Then I saw the price! *insert GASP here* Regularly, they retail for $49.50+!

How To: Get The Best Deals At Victoria's Secret

Just when you thought Victoria's only secret was the amazing Bombshell bra (you can read all about it here!)... There are more! Those secrets are sales and coupon promotions! Yes, they have them and yes, they make for some killer deals! Notice all the exclamation marks? They are intentional. I am THAT excited. After discovering how much I loved their bras, I ventured off into other products. I discovered that I also love their panties, perfume, makeup AND I can get those things FREE or deeply discounted! How great is that!? So, I get to have my pretty, feel good things WITHOUT spending a fortune. I want to let you in on the secrets, too.

Random mom thoughts while grocery shopping

Good morning beauties! I just got back from doing my weekly grocery shopping. I always do it on a morning hubby goes in to work late so that I can go without the kids. It's so much easier to walk down the aisles without hearing "can we buy this? PLEASE, mom!!!" Over and over again. Well, except for the voice in my head tempting me to buy loads of junk because I left without eating this morning even though I know it's a horrible idea to go food shopping when I'm hungry. Anyway, today I realized that I think of all kinds of odd things when I'm by myself. Not to mention the conversations I have with myself.

As I was buying a Coke out of the vending machine before walking into the store, I thought to myself (or maybe said out loud haha) "why am I willing to spend $1 on a can of Coke out of the vending machine when I cringe at spending more than $3.00 on a 12-pk? I guess there is something about the fact that the vending machine Coke is already cold that gets me, I don't know.

Then, as I was leaving, I unbuckled my purse from the shopping cart (I always buckle it in so that no one can run by and swipe it.) I thought to myself (or again, maybe said out loud) " you always put the groceries and purse in the car before putting your children in because you are paranoid of someone jumping in your car and taking off with your kids. However, you buckle your purse in the cart so no one will run off with it and you don't buckle your kids in?"

This is, I guess, what happens when a mom gets too much time alone.

Homemade all-natural facial cleanser

On my quest to not only find great beauty products but also to find the best things for my skin, I discovered an array of skin care products that are very affordable AND can be made from simple ingredients that you probably already have in your home. Ever since I quit nursing nine months ago, my skin seems to have gone crazy. I suddenly have the skin of a 16-year-old again and not in the "youthful, smooth, wrinkle-free" way. Rather, the "my hormones are going buck wild and my face looks like a connect the dots game". I stumbled upon some interesting recipes that I want to try. The first is a yogurt, honey, lemon facial cleanser that you can use daily. It is a great cleanser for sensitive skin. One of the best things about it is it's simplicity. So far I have been using it for two days and my skin feels way better than it ever has when using a store bought product. Bonus: the cold yogurt feels great on my skin during the summer!
