Nivea Post Shave Balm as a Makeup PRIMER?

Yep, you read that title right. Nivea Men Post Shave Balm has been getting quite the buzz since NikkieTutorials shared her accidental discovery of using it as a makeup primer. I wasn't sure about this concept so I checked out some more beauty gurus that I trust and was really intrigued. Of course, alternative, out-of-the-box ideas always get a lot of raised eyebrows so I wanted to test it out for myself.

While I was skeptical and definitely wanted to be able to rip this one apart, I just can't! I am absolutely amazed with it's performance so far.

The Post Shave Balm has a thin, light-weight formula that goes on beautifully and smooths the texture of my skin. I allow the balm "primer" to set/dry for a couple minutes before applying my makeup and my makeup goes on like a dream.

Though I have used many face primers, I have not found anything quite like this in it's ability to create such a flawless appearance for makeup application. My makeup did not go on cakey or uneven at all and held up all day. I actually feel like my skin is in better shape since using it. It feels softer and smoother as well as more hydrated.

For comparison, I have really been liking the Laura Geller Spackle primer up until now. Their consistency is similar as they are both quite liquid, thin, and runny.

At just $5.00, I am so super impressed and think I may have found a new favorite.

What makes it good for skin and as a primer

Nivea Men Post Shave Balm contains glycerin, making it a good option as a primer because the glycerin helps your makeup stick and stay put until you are ready to remove it. It also contains vitamin E, Chamomile, and Witch Hazel which are all widely recognized for being calming, soothing, and nourishing skincare ingredients.

PROS

- keeps makeup in place all day

- Illuminates but does not contain glitter or shimmer

- controls oil and shine
While the Post Shave Balm makes my skin beautifully illuminated, it also controls oil and does not make my skin look greasy.

-great price
It only costs around $5 compared to around $30 for the makeup primers I usually like.

- generous size
3.3 FL. OZ. vs. 1-2 OZ. for most face primers.

- thin, light-weight formula
It doesn't feel heavy or thick and I can't even tell the primer is on my face.

-availability
Nivea Post Shave Balm is widely available and can be purchased at many grocery stores, drugstores, and mass retailers such as Walmart and Target.

CONS

-slight manly smell
I thought being the "Sensitive" formula, I would luck out with a fragrance-free product but no such luck. It does have a slight fragrance that smells like a fresh body wash or soap but definitely of a manly variety. Though the fragrance is slight, I have a great sense of smell and was able to catch the smell for about two hours after application.

-must take care when pouring
I love the thin consistency but it also means that the product comes out quickly and spreads out so I have to be aware of that when pouring.

So, my final thought is this, I feel a little bad for all the men who have loved this product as a post shave balm as it was intended because I have a feeling it is about be become difficult to find on shelves for a while.
