Almost Effortless Beauty Tips for Busy Moms

Before kids I could spend a good two hours fussing with my makeup, hair, and picking out just the right clothes for the day. Now, I just don't have that kind on time to invest. Let's face it, having three young boys, I have spent many a day in yoga pants, messy clipped up hair, no makeup or leftover raccoon eyes from the day before. It has taken me a long time to come to the realization that, though my children are very important to me, I need to be important to me as well. I have also discovered that on days I get up and "put myself together", I feel better about myself and I am happier, overall, during the day.

This is probably where you all start to roll your eyes or laugh while spouting out your "yeah rights" or "who has time for that?" The truth is, I was the same way. I soon realized that it doesn't have to take hours to look and feel good and I can do it in only a few minutes. So here are some easy beauty tips and tricks to help you look and feel beautiful with little effort.

GET DRESSED:
            You don't have to be uncomfortable to look stylish!


Choose clothing the night before
To avoid grabbing that go-to pair of yoga pants or comfy sweatpants, I like to choose clothes the night before. This makes it easier because I don't have to stand there in the morning trying to figure out what to put together. I don't make these types of decisions very well early in the morning, anyway. By choosing clothes the night before, it reduces frustration and keeps me from surrendering to those oh-so-easy and comfy yoga pants.

Dark Denim and Leggings
You can do so much with a pair of leggings (read here on what to avoid) or some dark denim jeans!
Dark denim is really versatile and can go from casual to dressed up better than most any other item of clothing. For a casual look, pair your dark denim with a fitted t-shirt and some cute sneakers or sandals. For a more dressy look, pair your jeans with a lacey top and some cute flats or heels (if you are feeling extra bold).

Home Sweet Home Pedicures

Local business Highlight: HOME SWEET HOME PEDICURES: Owned and operated by Trish Bryant

I just got my toes done yesterday and I am seriously in love! For any of you who don't already know, my sister, Trish, does pedicures out of her home. Her salon is called Home Sweet Home Pedicures and she is phenominal! She has an amazing talent and is great with detail. I always take her really fun ideas and she executes them perfectly.

She specializes in gel pedicures (cured with a UV lamp) and they last anywhere from 5-6 weeks without chipping or losing their shine. The following are some different ones she has done for me.

In Case You Missed The Memo: Leggings are not "pants"

Okay, so I know this may offend some people but if you are one of them, it is probably because you are guilty of this. Don't get me wrong, if you are a size 0 with a perfect Victoria's Secret model body, you may be able to get away with wearing leggings as pants. Though, I still don't think you should. Leggings can be a nice addition to your wardrobe as long as they are worn in the right way. I'd like to show you WHY you should NOT wear leggings as pants.

Here we have Exhibit A: CELLULITE 

I know cellulite is genetic and a lot of women have it, myself included, but all you do when choosing to leave the house in leggings that leave your entire bottom half exposed is put it ALL on display. Cover it up with a long tunic or a skirt and we may never know you even have any.

Now for Exhibit B: CAMEL TOE

If you don't have an issue with cellulite (I envy you) please don't make other people have to look at all of the contours of your vag. The only people who should be looking at it are your husband, you doctor or your photographer if you are getting paid for it.

And Exhibit C: PANTY LINES or PANTIES or LACK-THERE-OF in some cases

We all know you love your sexy thongs or your comfy granny panties or anything in between but, this one is just as bad, maybe worse, than the "peek-a-boo" thong hanging out the back of your pants (yes, guilty of this one when I was a teenager). You may love your underwear but no other women on the street wanna see them through your "pants".

 So, how do we know if we are, indeed, leaving the house with pants on or not? Here is a little chart to help you decide:

Well then, how should leggings be worn? I personally love leggings! They are a great way to continue wearing skirts and dresses in the colder months while keeping your legs a little bit warmer.

These are great examples of a good way to wear leggings.

MY RECOMMENDATION: Stay away from the Spinach Alfredo pizzas! They used to be REALLY good and I would recommend them all the time. However, I think they switched sauces and it is way too salty and not good at all, in my opinion.
